Cool SAL's Pictures Starting with the SR-71 and now the Aussie P-3 Assy Line

OK I thought about continuing on the Apollo thread but these will be different all the time but one thing will be for sure.

http://www.400scalehangar.net/forums...ad.php?t=55915

They will have been taken along long time ago by me!!

We will start with the same RB-57 squadron that I was a part of in the early 1970's. The 58th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron

Being a Organization that also was equipped with the same "Spacesuits" and were also manned by the same environmental ground crews necessary to launch and recover the SR-71 and the U-2 we were tasked with being an emergency base in case one of these aircraft had to come down in a hurry during an emergency.

That happen this one day over New Mexico when an SR-71 on a flight encountered problems inflight and had to come make a landing at our base, Kirkland AFB, New Mexico.

The pictures..

Coming in low and in trouble...

Follow the leader and Coming in Hot...

Replaced with a better scan!!

Problems fixed, there were no pictures of the plane on the ground because I was on the recovery team and the camera went in the pocket. Got the pictures that I could..

The plane was then met with security and towed into the hangar.. This was after all 1972... we pickup with the SR-71 on the runway and on take off roll...

Burning!!

The "Black Bird" is airborne!!

OK Moar!!! Also sitting in my little Boxes of slides!!

The daredevil rider was Rick Rojatt, otherwise known as the Human Fly.

At the time, Evil Kneivel held the record jump of 13 buses, and Rick wanted to beat it badly. Rick's claim to fame at that point in his career was an astonishing stunt he'd performed over the Mojave Desert where he'd wing-walked on a DC-8 and actually made two low flying passes at 250 mph, a nearly impossible feat, and truly death-defying.

The place... The Mohave 1000 Air Races 1977... The photos speak for themselves, Need I say more!!!

Take Off Speed Or is that landing!!

All great photos I'd like to fly on a DC-8 again one day, but not quite the same seat assignment as the "Human Fly" had all those years ago.

The takeoff from his perspective must have been awesome though

OK, so it was only one flight, for a short time, and in a shallow dive. It still counts!

More great photos, Sal A younger Sal at that. Don't worry buddy, I have more salt than pepper in my hair and beard too.

What is the aircraft you are standing in front of on the last photo? It looks Vigilante like, but it can't be.

Love this stuff Sal. Is that an F111 you're standing in front of?
